Several restaurants and a bar are within a couple of minutes' walk.
Sa Pa lies about 320 km from Hanoi. Direct buses along the expressway run to the town centre in roughly six hours, and the town's bus station is about a 16-minute walk from the hotel. By rail, overnight trains run from Hanoi to Lao Cai, followed by a transfer of 45 minutes to an hour up to Sa Pa. The hotel can arrange a shuttle at extra charge. In fog or heavy rain the mountain roads are slower, so allow some extra time. Check-in starts at 13:00 and runs until midnight, and check-out is by 11:00.
For Fansipan, at 3,143 m the highest peak in Vietnam, the Muong Hoa funicular leaves from Sun Plaza near the main square and rolls past rice terraces to the cable car, which then climbs to the summit area. Mountain weather changes fast, so it helps to keep two or three days free and pick a clear one. Ham Rong Mountain, a short walk away, has flower gardens and views over the valley, and the Stone Church dates from 1895. Cat Cat, the closest village, lies about 3 km from town, one to two hours' walk downhill, while the Muong Hoa Valley trek through Lao Chai and Ta Van takes five to seven hours, ideally with a guide. September and October bring the rice harvest, March to May brings flowers and clearer skies, June to August is wet and foggy, and winter nights are cold, so pack layers.
